Reyhaneh Jabbari, 26 ans, reconnue coupable de meurtre, a été pendue samedi à Téhéran, malgré les appels à la clémence lancés par des associations, l’Union européenne et les Etats-Unis. Washington qui a immédiatement condamné cet acte, mettant en doute “l’équité” du procès de la jeune femme.

Reyhaneh Jabbari, 26 years old, found guilty of murder, was hung in Terehan, despite the calls for clemency by  the European Union and the USA. Washington who immediatly condemned the act, have put doubt on the “fairness” of the young woman’s trial.

Les appels à la clémence n’auront pas suffi. Reyhaneh Jabbari, une jeune femme de 26 ans, a été pendue samedi à Téhéran, rapporte l’agence de presse officielle iranienne Irna. Elle avait été condamnée à mort en 2009, reconnue coupable du meurtre d’un homme qu’elle accusait d’avoir tenté de la violer. Ces derniers mois, même le président Hassan Rohani semblait gêné par cette condamnation ; mais seul le gudie suprême iranien, Ali Khamenei, aurait pu grâcier l’accusée. Il n’a jamais ne serait-ce qu’évoqué l’affaire.

The calls for clemency were not enough. Reyhaneh Jabbari was hung in Teheran on Saturday, as reported by Irna, the official Iranian press. She was condemned to death in 2009, found guilty of the murder of a man who she accused of attempted rape on her. During the last months, although the president Hassan Rohani expressed difficulty with the sentence: but only the supreme imam  Reyhaneh Jabbari, could have granted a stay of execution, he did not get involved.

Immédiatement après l’annonce de la pendaison de la jeune femme, Amnesty International a dénoncé une “nouvelle tache dans le bilan des droits de l’Homme de l’Iran“. L’association, qui a toujours souligné la partialité du procès, était en pointe dans la défense de Reyhaneh Jabbari. Au fil des mois, l’Union européenne ou encore l’Onu ont tenté de peser dans la balance, tout comme les États-Unis. Mais l’Iran est resté sourd aux demandes internationales ; Washington a condamné fermement – par communiqué – la pendaison dès ce samedi, mettant en avant “de sérieux doutes sur l’équité du procès et les circonstances entourant ce dossier, dont des rapports faisant état de confessions recueillies sous de sérieuses contraintes“.

Immediately after the announcement of the hanging of the young woman, Amnesty International denounced “a new stain on the state of affairs in Iran on human rights”. The association, who always signaled a bias in the legal proceedings, were active in the defence of  Reyhaneh Jabbari. In recent months The European Union and the UN have leaned their weight in her favour, as indeed did the USA. But Iran turned a deaf ear to the international pleas; Washington condemned strongly – by communiqué – the hanging on Saturday, and forwarded “serious doubts on the fairness of the legal process and the circumstances surrounding the dossier, including the state’s reports of the confessions admitted by the accused while under serious constraints”.
Pas de quoi bouleverser la justice iranienne, et notamment le parquet de Téhéran, qui assure que la jeune femme a accompli un geste “prémédité” en assassinant sa victime à l’aide d’un couteau de cuisine. Et, selon la loi coranique et en l’absence du pardon accordé par la famille de la victime, la mort était la seule peine envisagée par les juges. Depuis le début de l’année, au moins 500 personnes ont été exécutées en Iran.

The Iranian justice were overwhelming, and notably the Teheran court, to assure that the young woman committed an act “premeditated” in assassinating the victim with the use of a kitchen knife. And, as per the law of the Koran and the victim’s family not giving pardon, the death penalty was the only option left to the judges. Since the start of the year, at least 500 people were executed in Iran.
