Tard, mais pas trop tard : le Centre Simon-Wiesenthal en Allemagne promet jusqu’à 25.000 euros de récompense pour toute personne contribuant à faire arrêter un ancien nazi. L’ONG lance une vaste campagne d’affichage en Allemagne, disant espérer en poursuivre une soixantaine.
Late, but not too late: The German Simon-Wiesenthal Centre have pledged up to €25,000 reward to anybody who contributes to the arrest of a former nazi. The ONG have launched a big list campaign in Germany, in an effort to chase down some sixty remaining.
C’est une grande photo en noir et blanc, celle de l’entrée du camp d’Auschwitz. Sous le titre Opération dernière chance, Tard mais pas trop tard, ce texte : “Des millions d’innocents ont été assassinés par des criminels nazis. Quelques-uns des auteurs sont libres et en vie ! Aidez-nous à les faire comparaître devant la justice”. La campagne-choc débute ce mardi en Allemagne. Elle est l’oeuvre du Centre Simon-Wiesenthal, l’ONG qui établit chaque année la liste des anciens bourreaux nazis les plus recherchés. Celel-ci promet jusqu’à 25.000 euros pour toute information d’importance.

Help us to make reparation before the justice”. The hard-hitting campaign started this Tuesday in Germany. It is the work of the Simon-Wiesenthal Centre, the ONG who establish each year the list of the most wanted former nazis. This one promises up to €25,000 for all important information.
“Nous n’avons plus beaucoup de temps. Deux ou trois ans au maximum”, explique le directeur du Centre Simon-Wiesenthal en Israël, l’historien Efraim Zuroff. “Nous espérons recevoir des indices sur des gens qui ont travaillé dans des camps de la mort, ou servi dans des Einsatzgruppen.” Ils sont 6.000, selon lui. “On estime que 2% d’entre elles sont encore en vie, soit 120 personnes, et la moitié ne peuvent pas être poursuivis pour des raisons médicales”. Il en reste donc une soixantaine… Les crimes nazis sont imprescriptibles en Allemagne.

Two or three years at maximum”, explained the director of the Simon-Weisenthal Centre in Isreal, the historian Efraim Zuroff. ” We hope to receive information on the people who worked in the camps of death, or served in the Einsatzgruppen.” They number 6,000, according to him. “We estimate that 2% among them are still alive, so 120 people, and the half is not worth pursuing for medical reasons”. That leaves about sixty. The nazi crimes are proscribed in Germany.
