Storms in the Midi: Seven departments put on Orange alert.

Météo France a placé lundi l’Aude, l’Aveyron, le Gard, la Haute-Garonne, l’Hérault, les Pyrénées-Orientales et le Tarn en vigilance orange, en raison d’orages accompagnés de fortes pluies et de vent attendus dans la journée et la nuit prochaine.

Météo France have put (on Monday) Aude, Aveyron, Gard, Haute-Garonne, Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales and Tarn on Orange alert, reason being the storms will be accompanied by heavy rains and high winds both day and the following night.

Selon Météo France, le vent d’Autan se renforce, ce qui nécessite une vigilance particulière. Il atteindra en première partie de nuit prochaine les 100-130 km/h aux abords de la Montagne Noire, et 100-110 km/h en plaine, de Carcassonne à Toulouse. Les pluies vont également continuer à affecter les départements du Languedoc-Roussilon et prendront cette nuit un caractère orageux. 100 à 200 mm sont attendus sur les massifs, à quoi s’ajouteront les orages, qui pourront donner 60 à 80 mm de plus. Fin des perturbations attendue pour mardi après-midi.

According to the weather service, the *Autan wind will strengthen, necessitating this particular alert. It will reach in the early part of the night 100-130 km/hr on the Montagne Noire (Tarn, SW Massive Central), and 100-110 km/hr on the plains of Carcassone to Toulouse. Rains will equally effect the Languedoc-Roussilon area and take on stormy characteristics tonight. 100 to 200 mm are expected on the massifs, and with storms can add another 60 to 80 mm. Tuesday afternoon should see the end of the disturbances.

*Le vent d’autan  is a wind that blows in the south/SW of France, coming from south/SE, affecting the Aquitane basin and SW of the massif Central. Principally Languedoc et Midi-Pyrénées is the region affected.
