C’est la 20eme édition de la fête du pain ! Baguette, pain complet, pain au levain… En ce jour de la Saint Honoré, le saint patron des boulangers, rencontre avec Bernard Le Gloahec, boulanger dans le Lot, après un détour par la Floride.

This is the 20th annual celebration of bread. Baguette, pain complet, pain au levain…On this day of Saint Honoré, the patron saint of bakers, recounted Bernard Le Gloachec, a baker in the Lot region. After a time in Florida.

Une petite histoire du pain : le prix du pain n’a été libéré qu’en 1987. Jusque là, le boulanger était un fonctionnaire. Il appliquait des consignes et était extrêmement limité par un certain nombre de règles. Il fallait avant tout garantir un pain quotidien. Aujourd’hui, le boulanger est plus qu’un artisan, il est un véritable créateur ! Et la France reste le pays où les formations de boulangers, les expériences et les créations en matière de boulangers sont les plus développées.

A little history of bread: the price of bread was not uncontrolled until 1987. Up to then, bakers were civil servants. It was controlled and extremely limited by many rules. There was a guarantee of daily bread. Today, the baker is more than just an artisan, he is a veritable creator! And in France alone are there bakers development formations, where the experiences and creations on the subject of bakers continue.

Par ailleurs, le consommateur français est de plus en plus curieux de sa gastronomie et donc de son pain. Aujourd’hui, on semble prendre conscience qu’il y a un véritable savoir-faire. Les boulangers se focalisent de nouveau sur les levains d’antan, liquides et durs, de la fermentation qui est de plus en plus lente et les clients demandent de plus en plus un pain rustique et noir.

The French bread consumers are more and more curious of gastronomie, including bread. Today, one takes notice of the immense know-how. Bakers focus on breads of long ago (d’antan), liquids and hardness, fermentation which is slower, when customers are now demanding more rustic dark bread.

Bernard Le Gloahec, boulanger, est un ancien maçon, passionné par le pain depuis toujours. Il a tout quitté pour venir ouvrir une boulangerie française en Floride aux Etats Unis. Il y a un an, il est venu s’installer dans le Lot est a ouvert dans le petit village de Terrou sa boulangerie “Au Pain perdu”.

Bernard Le Gloahec, baker, is a former builder, but passionate about bread always. He left everything behind to open a bakers in Florida, USA. A year ago he opened a bakers in the little village of Terrou, his shop named “Lost bread”.

Worked in the technical / engineering area as a Science Laboratory Technician and as an Aeronautics Engineer. The artistic side involves writing under the nom de plume of Billy Olsenn, his recently written play 'A Case of Wine' was staged by the players group Straight Make-Up at the 2012 Birr one act drama festival. It's next staging was in the one act circuit is in Cavan, at Maudebawn on Sat 10 Nov 2012. Then it was performed in the Bray, Co.Wicklow at the very popular one act festival in January 2013. Next play is FEAR. A dark tale about revenge on the cruel death of two pensioners by young thugs. Neighbours hatch a devious and dangerous plan to exact old-style revenge. Bill is a member of the Drama League of Ireland and his plays have been critically vetted and certified as original pieces of work by the DLI. Another literary project is that of commemoration of an aircraft crash on Djouce mountain in Wicklow in 1946. Bill wrote articles for the 50th, 60th and most recently the 70th anniversary, (12 Aug 2016) all were published in the Wicklow Times and ensured the survivors of the crash, all French Girl Guides, were not forgotten. Articles reproduced on this website. But mostly this site gives a more general European and specific French slant on popular and not so popular articles of French news, translated to English by the author. Each article is translated on a paragraph by paragraph basis so easy to read in either language and even possible to improve either language by comparison of the short English and French paragraphs. Amusez vous bien. The author is currently writing an easy to read technical aviation book centered around the Fokker 50. Another interest is that dealt with in another of Bill's websites www.realnamara.net, a Statue of the mother of God, Mary. It was erected in 1972 in Dublin, at the end of the Bull Wall near Clontarf, and my grandfather William Nelson, was the main instigator of that project. I give talks on the history of the statue and my grandfather's adventurous and dangerous life at sea. Technical assistance with each website is by J O'N.
