Tour de France 2015: 20th stage route altered.

Tour de France : les coureurs passeront par la Croix-de-Fer plutôt que le Galibier.

Riders will go by the Croix-de-Fer rather than the Galiber.

A cause d’un risque de glissement de terrain et d’une route fermée en Isère, le parcours de la 20e étape a été modifié. Le col du Galibier sera évité et les coureurs passeront la Croix-de-Fer.

Due to the risk of land-slide and road closures on the Isere, the route of the 20th stage will be modified. The Galiber mountain pass will be avoided and the peloton  will ride the Croix-de-Fer instead.

Une rectification du parcours était dans l’air sur la carte du prochain Tour de France cycliste, à cause de conditions de circulation modifiées en Isère. Ce jeudi, les organisateurs de l’épreuve cycliste ont confirmé le changement et annoncé le nouveau tracé de la 20e étape. Lors de cette avant-dernière étape, les coureurs éviteront le col du Galibier. Pour rejoindre l’Alpe-d’Huez, le peloton passera par le col de la Croix-de-Fer.

An alteration of the route was in the air for the map of the next cycling Tour because of the conditions  and resulting traffic modifications. Today the cyclists management organisation confirmed the change and announced the new layout of the 20th stage. While on the previous stage the riders will avoid the Galiber. To rejoin the Alpe-d’Huez the peloton will take the Croix-de-Fer mountain pass.

Le Galibier ne sera pas escaladé par les coureurs le 25 juillet prochain pour rejoindre l’altitude de 2.645 mètres. Le peloton passera par le col de la Croix-de-Fer situé à 2.067 mètres d’altitude. C’est à Bourg-d’Oisans, au pied de la montée de l’Alpe-d’Huez que le peloton retrouvera le tracé initial. Puisque le Galibier est effacé du Tour 2015, c’est le col d’Allos dans les Alpes du Sud qui devient le toit du parcours, avec 2.250 mètres d’altitude. Le peloton partira à son assaut lors de la 17e étape du tour, que vous suivrez sur France Info, la radio officielle de la Grande Boucle.

The Galiber will not be climbed by the riders on 25th July to make the 2,645 metre altitude. The peloton will instead climb the col de la Croix-de-Fer at 2,067 metres altitude. It is the Bourg-d-Oisans, at the foot of the Alpe-d’Huez that the peloton will find the new layout. So with the Galiber wiped from the 2015 Tour, the col d’Allos in the Southern Alps that will become the roof of the route, at 2,250 metres. The peloton will start its assault during the 17th stage of the tour, which can be followed live on France Info, the official radio station of the TdeF.(the Grande Boucle – literally great belt or buckle depending on the context).

Les craintes d’un glissement de terrain. (Fears of a land slide)

Les changements sur le parcours de la 20e étape ont été confirmés au lendemain de l’annonce de modifications de circulation par le Conseil départemental de l’Isère. La route entre Grenoble et Briançon va rester fermée au tunnel du Chambon à cause d’un risque important de glissement de terrain. La voûte du tunnel faisait l’objet de travaux depuis plusieurs semaines, mais ils ont dû être arrêtés à cause du glissement de terrain de plus en plus actif. Il progresse en effet de 15cm par jour. Un itinéraire bis est à l’étude mais il n’ouvrira pas avant l’automne.

The changes in the routing of the 20th stage was confirmed the day after the Isere department Council announced traffic diversions. The road between Grenoble and Briancon is going to stay closed to the Chambon tunnel because of the risk of a large land slide. Works on the Tunnel vault have been ongoing for several weeks but had to be halted because of increased land slide activity. It is moving at about 15 cms per day. A works progress report is under review but it will not reopen before the autumn.

Next play is FEAR. A dark tale about revenge on the cruel death of two pensioners by young thugs. Neighbours hatch a devious and dangerous plan to exact old-style revenge. Bill is a member of the Drama League of Ireland and his plays have been critically vetted and certified as original pieces of work by the DLI. Another literary project is that of commemoration of an aircraft crash on Djouce mountain in Wicklow in 1946. Bill wrote articles for the 50th, 60th and most recently the 70th anniversary, (12 Aug 2016) all were published in the Wicklow Times and ensured the survivors of the crash, all French Girl Guides, were not forgotten. Articles reproduced on this website. But mostly this site gives a more general European and specific French slant on popular and not so popular articles of French news, translated to English by the author. Each article is translated on a paragraph by paragraph basis so easy to read in either language and even possible to improve either language by comparison of the short English and French paragraphs. Amusez vous bien. The author is currently writing an easy to read technical aviation book centered around the Fokker 50. Another interest is that dealt with in another of Bill's websites www.realnamara.net, a Statue of the mother of God, Mary. It was erected in 1972 in Dublin, at the end of the Bull Wall near Clontarf, and my grandfather William Nelson, was the main instigator of that project.
