Is the world heading for a shortage of wine? This is the case according to Morgan Stanley, in a study published on Wednesday. There seems no let-up in the decline, falling in 2012 to it’s lowest level for 40 years. A worrying situation when explained by the reduction in production capacities, notably in France. While at the same time, the emergence of new upper middle-class (Bourgeoisie) Russians, Americans and Chinese are causing an explosion in demand for wine.

The production capacities have particularly reduced in Europe and are now 10% less than 2005, notably in France, the number one world producer, followed by Italy and Spain.
How is the decline explained, particularly in France? A senate report recently published explains two reasons: the reduction in national demand, and changes in the consumption of wine. Another point can be added in that last year had bad weather.
