Badges de Roissy : deux badges rendus. Two Roissy CDG airport badges surrendered.
The decision of the chief of police to pull two badges is suspended by the (administrative*) court for two employees and is upheld for five others.
*This court was established by the law (décret no 53-934 du 30 septembre 1953) to allow a citizen to challenge the state if they feel the sanction imposed is excessive.
The documents that were served to defend our cause in court: “We had the right to deliver on the ultra-security of the state”, declared (Maitre) Moutet barrister for the employees, to the Associated Press, “But we have beaten every document”. According to Moutet, the documents justify the pulling of the badges for security reasons laid down in the information of UCLAT (Unit for the co-ordination of anti-terrorist activity) for these men. This counts the frequency of their visits to fundamental islamic mosques or their contact with fundamental muslims. “Fundamental islam is not synonymous with terrorism”, the barrister underlined.
Sixty two workers of the Muslims persuasion work for several years inside the security zones of CDG airport have had their badges of work entitlement withdrawn by the assistant prefect of police of Seine-Saint-Denis. Eleven others are engaging with the actions of the justice through their unions. A penal complaint for “discrimination” was placed at the Bobigny court, and a preliminary inquiry has opened. The minister of the Interior, Nicolas Sarkozy, justified the many badge withdrawls by affirming that “there are precise elements which alarmed us to block their entry (to CDG)”.
Opinion: All but four of the staff got their working badges returned. The four could not give sufficient guarantees as to their bone fides for security clearance. Airside badges are issued on application by the designated security correspondent for the company. On production of certain identity documents and proof of address the security correspondent submits a signed and stamped (with company stamp) application form to the gendarmes on behalf of each of their staff members. Within three weeks (after gendarmes background checks are complete) the security correspondent and the applicant turns up at the ID office and verifies the dossier previously presented and performs a biometric test (finger prints). The badge with a biometric test is the verification for access at designated staff entry gates, manned by security personnel. Random Spot checks are carried out by the gendarmes at the entry points where other identity documentation is requested (drivers licence, passport). During the legal procedure of verification for the 62 Chronopost staff who had their badges withdrawn, the various unions in CDG called for two hour strikes of airline, airport and internal companies located in CDG as a form support fore those who lost their badges. People who do not have entry badges can not work in the airport. In the light of the Charlie-Hebdo and Jewish supermarket attacks (2nd week of Jan 2015) would the unions have the same level of sympathy for those penalised for suspected extreme islamic views and practices?
