Pour la première fois en France, un préfet interdit le transit des poids-lourds les plus polluants. En Haute-Savoie, ce mercredi, les camions ne pourront pas transiter par le tunnel du Mont-Blanc à cause d’un épisode de “pollution majeur”.                                         For the first time in France, a prefect has refused transit of the most polluting heavy trucks. In the Haute-Savoie (French Alps), on Wednesday , the trucks were not able to transit by the Mont-Blanc tunnel because of a major pollution episode.

Une première en France. Le préfet de Haute-Savoie, Georges-François Leclerc, a décidé d’interdire les camions les plus polluants de passer par le tunnel du Mont-Blanc afin de protéger les habitants de la vallée de Chamonix. En effet, un pic de “pollution majeur” est annoncé dans le secteur. L’interdiction est valable à partir de minuit ce mercredi et elle restera en vigueur “tant que cela sera nécessaire“, précise le préfet. Les poids-lourds concernés par cette mesure (Euro 0, 1, 3) représentent 10% de la flotte des camions mais génèrent 1/5 des émissions en particules fines et oxyde d’azote, selon la préfecture de région.                                                                                                                                                       A first for France. the prefect of the Haute-Savoie Georges-François Leclerc, decided to prohibit the high pollution trucks to use the Mont-Blanc tunnel ultimately to protect the inhabitants of the Chamonix valley. In fact a peak of “major pollution” was recorded in the region. The prohibition is in place from Wednesday at midnight for as long as is necessary”, said the prefect (police chief) specifically. The heavy vehicles concerned (Euro 0,1,3 cats) represent 10% of the truck fleet but generate 1/5th (20%) of the emissions of fine nitrous oxide, according to the region prefecture (police office)
