Victorieuse d’une très courte marge contre le XV de France (20-22), l’équipe d’Irlande remporte le Tournoi des VI Nations 2014 à la différence de points par rapport à l’Angleterre. Les Bleus terminent quatrième au classement.

Victorious by a very short margin against France (20-22) the Irish team lifted the 2014 VI Nations tournament on points difference from England. Les Bleus finished fourth.

Ce fut une belle finale entre l’arbitre de ce Tournoi, la France, et l’Irlande. Le score serré reflète bien le combat qui s’est déroulé sur la pelouse du stade de France. Mais au bout de 80 minutes de grand combat, ce sont bien les Irlandais qui remportent la rencontre (20-22) et le Tournoi des VI Nations 2014, leur premier succès depuis le Grand Chelem de 2009 et leur 20e succès depuis la création du Tournoi.

This made for a great final between the referee, France and Ireland. The tight score reflected the great battle that unfolded on the stade de France pitch. But at the end of the 80 minutes of the great battle, it was the Irish who won the clash (20-22)and the 2014 VI Nations Tournament, their first success since the Grand Slam of 2009 and their 20th success since the creation of the tournament.  

Tout s’est joué à pas grand-chose, signe que la rencontre était équilibrée et donc que la France a su relevé la tête après la courte mais peu probante victoire en Ecosse. Même si tout n’était pas parfait, à l’image de quelques passes en avant qui ont coûté jusqu’à un essai aux hommes de Philippe Saint-André à la dernière minute.

All the play wasn’t great, although the clash was well matched and so France raised their game after the narrow but unconvincing win in Scotland. All the same it wasn’t perfect, and the image of several forward passes resulted in a disallowed try for the Saint-André men in the last minute.

Bastareaud et Dulin précieux(Invaluable)

Les satisfactions sont tout de même au rendez-vous. En touche, le tir a été rectifié. En mêlée, la France a su provoqué la faute aux avants les moins sanctionnés du Tournoi. Matthieu Bastareaud, certes maladroit à la passe, a su plusieurs fois percuter le rideau vert et contester le ballon dans les rucks. Brice Dulin, pourtant un temps affaibli au genou et mis à l’épreuve par les arrières irlandais, a parfaitement tenu son rôle.

All the same there were satisfactions in this encounter. The lineout the accuracy was rectified. In the scrum, France committed less faults and the least penalties of the Tournament. Matthieu Bastereaud, apart from the forward pass, cut through the green cover often and contested the ball in the rucks. Brice Dulin, although carrying a weak knee and tested by the Irish backs, played his part perfectly. 

Maxime Machenaud a réussi un 100% au pied, ce qui a permis aux Bleus de toujours rester dans le coup, profitant également de la défaillance de Jonathan Sexton du côté du XV du Trèfle. La France perd malgré tout cette rencontre sur une pénalité manquée de Doussain, tout juste entré en jeu (71e minute) et termine à la quatrième place du Tournoi des VI Nations 2014.

Maxime Machenaud was 100% successful with kicks, allowing les Bleus to stay in the match, profiting by Sexton’s weakness with the boot on the Irish side. France lost this encounter by a Doussain missed penalty in the 71st minute and finished in fourth place in the VI Nations tournament.

Mais la dernière copie est encourageante pour les Bleus et il faudra confirmer cette embellie lors des prochains tests. Enfin, l’Irlande permet à Brian O’Driscoll de quitter la scène internationale sur une très bonne note, à l’image de sa grande carrière internationale.

But the last image is one of encouragement for les Bleus and they must confirm this improvement during their next tests. Finally, Ireland allowed Brian O’Driscoll to leave the international stage on a high note, befitting his great international career.
