Mali : un militaire français est mort après un “accrochage avec des terroristes”, annonce l’Elysée. A French soldier dies after a “collision with terrorists”, the Elysée has announced.

Ce caporal-chef a été mortellement blessé par des tirs alors qu’il intervenait après l’attaque d’un véhicule blindé léger par un engin explosif, précise le ministère de la Défense.

The corporal was mortally wounded by shots in an intervention after an attack on an armoured vehicle by mobile explosives, the Ministry of Defence has revealed.

L’Elysée annonce, jeudi 6 avril, la mort d’un militaire français après un “accrochage avec des terroristes” dans le sud-est du Mali. Il s’agit d’un caporal-chef du 6ème régiment du génie d’Angers, précise la présidence dans un communiqué. Le soldat est mort dans la nuit de mercredi à jeudi.

The soldier, 6th Angers engineer regiment, died in an altercation with terrorists in the SE of Mali. The communiqué said the soldier died on Wednesday night. 

 

Le ministère de la Défense précise que ce caporal-chef a été mortellement blessé par des tirs alors que son détachement intervenait après l’attaque d’un véhicule blindé léger par un engin explosif. Ces faits se sont déroulés pendant une opération militaire tripartite de la force française Barkhane avec des unités maliennes et burkinabées, à 200 km au sud de Gao.

The events unfolded during a tripartite military operation involving the French Barkhane forces, including Malien and Burkino military units, 200kms south of Gao. A light armoured vehicle was in collision with a mobile explosive vehicle. The soldier died from gunfire when a unit engaged the attackers.

François Hollande a “salué le sacrifice de ce soldat français tué dans l’accomplissement de sa mission pour la défense de notre pays et la protection de nos concitoyens”. Dans ce communiqué de l’Elysée, le président de la République adresse “ses sincères condoléances à sa famille, ses amis et ses frères d’armes”. L’@armeedeterre déplore le décès au combat du caporal-chef Julien Barbé du dans le cadre de l’opération.

Francois Hollande “paid tribute to the French soldier killed in the action on defending his country and it’s people, and protectorate citizens”. The Elysée communiqué stated. The president adressed “sincere condolences to his family, friends and brothers in arms”. The territorial army deplores the death in combat of Corporal Julien Berbé as part of the operation in Mali.
