Neige et verglas : vigilance orange sur l’Ile-de-France

Météo France a émis un bulletin de vigilance orange à la neige et au verglas à compter de la nuit de jeudi à vendredi dans les huit départements de la région parisienne : Paris, les Hauts-de-Seine, la Seine-Saint-Denis, le Val-de-Marne, la Seine-et-Marne, les Yvelines, l’Essonne et le Val-d’Oise. La Picardie et le Nord-Pas-de-Calais sont également concernés.

Le froid et la neige vont s’abattre sur Paris et sa région. Dans la nuit de jeudi à vendredi, un front froid actif va donner des chutes de neige significatives de la région parisienne à la région Nord, prévoit Météo France.

Dans la deuxième partie de nuit de jeudi à vendredi et vendredi matin, ces chutes de neige vont s’intensifier et cette neige tiendra au sol.

Vigilance orange en Île-de-France

Huit départements de l’Île-de-France ont été placés en vigilance orange par Météo France :

  • Paris
  • Hauts-de-Seine
  • Seine-Saint-Denis
  • Val-de-Marne
  • Seine-et-Marne
  • Yvelines
  • Essonne
  • Val-d’Oise

Dans ces départements, les hauteurs de neige attendues sont de l’ordre de 1 à 3cm en région parisienne, de 5 à 7 cm localement.

On attend également 10cm de neige sur la Picardie et la région Nord.

En cours de journée, vendredi, ces chutes de neige se décaleront sur les régions situées plus à l’est.

Winter is coming with a vengence to Paris and the northern departments. Snow-fall int he Paris region noted above will be 1 to 3 cms, adjoining depts will suffer 5 to 7 cms, with Picardie and further north a possible 10 cms.  Meteo France have issued an Orange alert. In 2010 Meteo were roundly criticised for it’s failure to warn in advance when 1,000 people were stuck in their cars overnight on many routes around Paris, including the peripheriques (BP -Boulevarde Peripherique) due to 11 hours snow-fall. There was chaos in Paris in 2010 when parents were unable to pick up their children from schools. Teachers could not leave their schools. Orly and CDG were closed and all hotels were full with people queueing in line to see if hotels would have ‘no-shows’. Since then Meteo France are taking no chances. Already on France Info (Radio) at 16h00 today in France they are reporting enourmous traffic jams in Paris and elswhere in the region. Having been caught in traffic jams myself and unable to get home due to snow during several winters in France it is not a pleasant experience!

Another literary project is that of commemoration of an aircraft crash on Djouce mountain in Wicklow in 1946. Bill wrote articles for the 50th, 60th and most recently the 70th anniversary, (12 Aug 2016) all were published in the Wicklow Times and ensured the survivors of the crash, all French Girl Guides, were not forgotten. Articles reproduced on this website. But mostly this site gives a more general European and specific French slant on popular and not so popular articles of French news, translated to English by the author. Each article is translated on a paragraph by paragraph basis so easy to read in either language and even possible to improve either language by comparison of the short English and French paragraphs. Amusez vous bien. The author is currently writing an easy to read technical aviation book centered around the Fokker 50. Another interest is that dealt with in another of Bill's websites www.realnamara.net, a Statue of the mother of God, Mary. It was erected in 1972 in Dublin, at the end of the Bull Wall near Clontarf, and my grandfather William Nelson, was the main instigator of that project.
