Le tracé du Tour de France 2015 a été révélé ce mercredi et il ne présentera qu’un contre-la-montre individuel de 14 km. Le parcours traversera trois pays et sera très montagneux. The layout of the tour de France was revealed this Wednesday and it will involve only one 14 km individual time-trial. The course will go through three countries and will be very mountainous. 

Son officialisation était peut-être moins attendue que les autres années. Le parcours du Tour de France 2015 a été dévoilé ce mercredi. Peu surprise puisqu’une fuite sur Twitter avait montré le tracé la veille. Ce qu’on ne savait pas, c’est qu’il n’y aura qu’un seul contre-la-montre individuel de 14 km lors du prologue à Utrecht. Un record depuis 1936. “Après le chrono inaugural, il restera dix jours de plaine et dix jours de montagne“, a révélé Christian Prudhomme, directeur du Tour de France.

It’s official presentation was perhaps less anticipated than other years. The course of TdeF 2015 was unveiled this Wednesday. Little surprising when a Twitter leak revealed the layout in advance. All was known except that there will be only one individual time-trial of 14 kms at the time of the prologue in Utrecht. Not seen since 1936. “After the inaugural  time-trial, there will be ten days flat and ten days mountains”, revealed christian Prudhomme, TdeF director.

 

Trois pays, du vent et des montagnes (Three countries, wind and mountains)

Les coureurs traverseront trois pays : Pays-Bas, “le pays de la petite reine”, Belgique et France. Une arrivée originale est prévue dès le début du Tour “sur une digue“, a expliqué Christian Prudhomme sur France Info, “la mer à droite, à gauche, en dessous, ça va être formidable si le vent est bien disposé“. Pour la première fois depuis 10 ans il y aura “une semaine complète en plaine“.

The riders will cover three countries: Holland, “the country of the little queen”, Belgium and France. An arrival original is expected at the start of the Tour “on a dyke”, explained Christian Prudhomme on France Info, “the sea on the right, left and above, ready to be formidable if the wind blows”. For the first time in 10 years there will be a full week on the flat.

Sur cette surface, les organisateurs ont voulu “utiliser toutes les aspérités du parcours” : le vent, les arrivées en bosses et les pavés. Pour la deuxième année consécutive, les cyclistes rouleront sur des pavés pendant 13 kms avec une arrivée à Cambrai, première ville de France traversée par le Tour de France 2015. Direction, ensuite, la Picardie, la Normandie et la Bretagne.

For the second year in a row, the cyclists will cycle on the cobbles for 13 kms with a finish in Cambrai, the first French town met by the TdeF 2015. Followed by Picardy, Normandy and Britany.

La Grande Boucle sera aussi -et surtout- montagneuse. Deux semaines de montagne, notamment pour célébrer les 40 ans du maillot à pois, le maillot de meilleur grimpeur. Des plateaux classiques et des nouveaux comme La Pierre-Saint-Martin dans les Pyrénées, les Lacets de Montvernier dans les Alpes, près de Saint-Jean-de Maurienne, “une route incroyable de 18 lacets dans la falaise accrochée à flanc de montagne“.

La montée mythique de l’Alpe d’Huez aura lieu la veille de l’arrivée sur les Champs-Elysées, “pour maintenir le suspense jusqu’au bout“. Arrivée prévue à Paris autour de 19h30. “Nous rentrerons par l’avenue de la Grande armée (et l’Arc de Triomphe), ensuite nous passerons au pied de la Tour Eiffel, sur les quais pour entrer dans le Louvres, avant l’arrivée classique rue de Rivoli“, précise le directeur du Tour. En tout les coureurs parcoureront 3.344 kilomètres.

The event will also be – specially – mountainous. Two weeks in the mountains, notably to celebrate 40 years of the polka-dot jersey, for the best climber. The classic plateaus and the new ones like La Pierre-Saint-Martin in the Pyrenees (Tuesday 14 July Bastille Day) and Lacets de Montvernier in the Alps,  close to Saint-Jean-de Maurienne (Friday 24 July), “an incredible route of 18 switch-backs rising up on the mountain-side cliffs”.

The climb on the mystique Alpe d’Huez will be on the eve of the arrival on the Champs-Elysées “to maintain the suspense up the end”. The finish in Paris is expected around 19h30. “We’ll come in by the Avenue de la Grande Armee (and the Arc de Triumph), then we’ll pass at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, on the quays at the entry to the Louvre, before the rue de Rivoli and the classic finish.

Bill wrote articles for the 50th, 60th and most recently the 70th anniversary, (12 Aug 2016) all were published in the Wicklow Times and ensured the survivors of the crash, all French Girl Guides, were not forgotten. But mostly this site gives a more general European and specific French slant on popular and not so popular articles of French news, translated to English by the author. Each article is translated on a paragraph by paragraph basis so easy to read in either language and even possible to improve either language by comparison of the short English and French paragraphs.
