Le ministre des Affaires étrangères l’a confirmé dans l’après-midi. Le ministère de la Défense parle d’une patrouille de Rafale, partie de sa base dans le Golfe, équipée de “pod” permettant de recueillir des images numériques.

The minister for Foreign affairs so confirmed this afternoon. The Minister for Defence spoke of a Rafale patrol, taking off from it’s Gulf base, equipped with equipment to send back digital images.

“La décison annoncée par François Hollande a été suivie d’effet. Ces vols de reconnaissance détermineront le moment venu telle ou telle action qui pourrait être prise”, déclare Laurent Fabius. Le ministre des Affaires étrangères a donc confirmé ce mardi après-midi que l’armée française avait bien effectué ses premiers vols de reconnaissance en Syrie.

“The decision announced by Francois Hollande has been followed through. These reconnaissance flights will determine when the moment will come and what (military) action to take” declared Laurent Fabius. The Minister for Foreign Affairs has confirmed today that the French army have started reconnaissance flights over Syria.

Selon le ministère de la Défense, il s’agit d’une patrouille de deux chasseurs-bombardiers Rafale, accompagnés d’un avion ravitailleur C-135, partis de leur base dans le Golfe arabo-persique. Les avions étaient équipés d’un “pod”, qui permet de recueillir des images numériques à haute et basse altitude. “Il s’agit de recueillir des renseignements sur le groupe terroriste Daech et de renforcer notre capacité d’appréciation autonome de la situation”, explique-t-on.

According to the Minister of Defence, a two fighter Rafale aircraft (Bombardiers), along with a C-135 supply aircraft, left their Arabian-Persian Gulf base. The Rafaels are equipped with special photographic ‘pods’ that allow digital images to be sent back from high and low altitude flights. “It is to gather information on the Daech (ISIS) terrorist group and to re-enforce our capacity and self autonomy of the situation”, he explained.

Bill wrote articles for the 50th, 60th and most recently the 70th anniversary, (12 Aug 2016) all were published in the Wicklow Times and ensured the survivors of the crash, all French Girl Guides, were not forgotten. It was erected in 1972 in Dublin, at the end of the Bull Wall near Clontarf, and my grandfather William Nelson, was the main instigator of that project.
