Mont-de-Marsan : le toit du nouveau centre commercial s’effondre

Le nouveau centre, Grand Moun, était ouvert au public depuis mercredi, à Saint-Pierre -du-Mont, dans la périphérie de Mont-de-Marsan. 1.200 m² de toiture se sont affaissés dans la nuit. Aucun blessé à signaler, mais des dégâts très importants.

The new centre, Grand Moun, was opened to the public since Wednesday, at Saint-Pierre-du-Mont, on the rocade of Mont-de-Marsan. 1,220 sq metres of the roof collapsed during the night. No injuries were reported, but there’s a lot of serious damage.

C’est la zone commerciale la plus grande du département des Landes : 20.000 mètres carrés à Saint-Pierre-du-Mont, en périphérie de Mont-de-Marsan, 85 enseignes. Pour le premier jour d’ouverture du centre Grand Moun, mercredi, 30.000 visiteurs avaient fait le déplacement ; sans doute plus hier, jour férié.

It’s the biggest commercial zone in the Landes Department(40). 20,000 sq mtres. 85 companies. For the first day centre opening, Grand Moun, on Wednesday 30,000 visitors passed through: and most without doubt yesterday, a bank holiday.

Les curieux devront désormais patienter : cette nuit vers 2h20 du matin, une partie du toit s’est effondrée – 1.200 mètres carrés tout de même. Comme l’affaissement a eu lieu en pleine nuit, il n’y a pas de blessés. Mais de gros dégâts matériels.

“La charpente principale a tenu et les structures secondaires ont lâché. C’est une sorte de promontoire vitré sur le côté, qui permet de faire rentrer la lumière qui s’est effondré”, raconte le PDG du centre, Bernard Bornancin. Selon lui, la charpente était censée “supporter des charges très lourdes, jusqu’à dix mètres de neige”, et l’incident s’est produit soudainement alors qu’il n’y avait pas eu de vent ou d’intempéries particulières enregistrées dans la nuit.

“The main framework that holds the secondary structures let go. It was the release of the window promontory, side overhang, which allowed light through, that collapsed”, said the CEO of the centre, Bernard Bornancin. According to him, the structure was tested to “withstand very heavy loads, up to ten metres of snow”, but then the collapse incident happened  suddenly although there was no wind or other incidents noted during the night.
