Rocket attack in Mali (Kidal), three dead including a UN soldier.

Trois morts, dont un Casque bleu, dans des tirs de roquettes à Kidal

Au moins trois personnes, dont deux civils et un Casque bleu, ont été tués dimanche dans le nord-est du Mali, victimes de tirs de roquettes visant un camp de l’ONU à Kidal, bastion de la rébellion. Following the grenade and machine gun attack in Bamako on Saturday,in another attack at least three people, including two civilians and a Blue helmet (UN), were killed on Sunday in the NE of Mali, victims of rocket fire targetted at the UN camp in Kidal, a stronghold of the rebellion.

Un membre de la Minusma, la mission des Nations unies au Mali, a trouvé la mort dimanche matin à Kidal, dans le nord-est du Mali, où des tirs de roquettes et d’obus ont visé une base de cette force, a confirmé l’ONU. Selon un communiqué, “le camp de la Minusma à Kidal a essuyé plus d’une trentaine de tirs de roquettes et d’obus”, auxquels la force de l’ONU a riposté. Le texte fait “état de la mort d’un soldat de la Minusma et de 8 autres soldats blessés”. L’ONU déplore également des victimes civiles. Selon une source sécuritaire au sein de la Minusma, “certaines roquettes sont tombées dans  un campement situé à trois kilomètres du camp de la Minusma. Au moins deux civils ont été tués. Ils sont de la tribu des Kountas” de la minorité arabe. La Mission de l’ONU a précisé ensuite sur son compte Twitter que les deux civils tués étaient des enfants.                                           A member of the UN mission in Mali (Minusma), died on Sunday morning in Kital in NE Mali when rockets and shells were fired at the UN forces base, as confirmed by the UN. According to the communiqué “the Minusma camp was sprayed with more than 30 rockets and shells”, UN forces returned fire. The text read “one Minusma soldier was killed and eight other soldiers injured”. The UN equally deplored the civilian victims. According to informed Minusma sources, “Some rockets fell on an encampment situated three kilometres from the Minusma camp. At least two civilians were killed. They were from the minority Arab Kountas tribe. The UN mission later specified on Twitter that the two civilians killed were children.

Bill is a member of the Drama League of Ireland and his plays have been critically vetted and certified as original pieces of work by the DLI. Another literary project is that of commemoration of an aircraft crash on Djouce mountain in Wicklow in 1946. Bill wrote articles for the 50th, 60th and most recently the 70th anniversary, (12 Aug 2016) all were published in the Wicklow Times and ensured the survivors of the crash, all French Girl Guides, were not forgotten.
