Les Français prennent 34,7 jours d’arrêts maladie en moyenne par an
Un salarié (wage earner) français sur trois s’est arrêté de travailler au moins une fois en 2012 et les salariés malades sont absents 34,7 jours en moyenne selon le dernier baromètre de l’assureur Malakoff Médéric

Un salarié français sur trois a pris au moins un jour d’arrêt en 2012. Un chiffre en augmentation par rapport à 2011 (33,5 %) et 2010 (32,3 %). Les arrêts maladie de courte durée, entre 1 et 9 jours, restent les plus nombreux. Mais ce sont les arrêts maladies de plus d’un mois, dans lesquels sont compris les arrêts longue durée de plus de six mois, qui représentent 70 % du nombre total de jours d’arrêts maladie.
The figures show 33.5% for 2011, and 32.3% for 2010. The short duration of sick days, between 1 and 9 days, are still the most numerous. But the sick days of more than one month, in which are included long duration stoppages of more than six months, represent 70% of the total number of sick days.
Opinion: It would be interesting to further break out the figures between public service and private employees. The blogs/comments to this article in the SudOuest newspaper tries to tease it out but as in many cases seems to become a battle between the two sectors. Petit commercants (SMEs) tend not to associate with the image given by the heavily unionised public sector. They don’t march in demonstrations, they don’t go on strike, they work long hours, and depending on their business their bank loans are more restrictive, shorter duration repayment periods e.g. boulangers compared to an insurance agent office.
