Une nouvelle vigilance orange aux orages déclenchée par Météo France pour la nuit de mardi à mercredi et encore du mauvais temps annoncé pour la semaine prochaine. Comment expliquer ce désastreux temps d’août sur une bonne moitié de la France?

A new storms orange alert has been launched by Metéo France for Tuesday night into Wednesday and again bad weather for the next week. How to explain the disastrous August weather experienced across a good half of France?

Après un mois de juillet particulièrement pluvieux avec des précipitations cumulées deux fois supérieures à la normale, sauf sur les côtes de la Manche et la côte varoise, le mois d’août s’annonce tout aussi arrosé. Dès la première semaine du mois, la quantité de pluie tombée avait dépassé le niveau normal pour toute la durée du mois.

“Nous sommes dans un climat tempéré, c’est normal d’avoir du mauvais temps en été” relativise François Gourand, prévisionniste à Météo France.  “Mais cette année, c’est particulièrement marqué“.  Et si l’Est a été particulièrement touché en juillet, c’est l’Ouest qui est sous la pluie et les orages en août.
After the month of July particularly wet with rain accumulations twice as much as normal, except the NE coast and the Var coast (SE), August is forecast also wet. In the first week of the month, the quantity of rainfall has passed the normal amount for the whole month. “We are in a temperate climate, it’s normal to have bad weather in Summer” announced François Gourand, weather forecaster with Météo France, “But this year, it’s particularly notable”. And if the East was particularly effected in July, it’s the West which is under rain and storms in August”    

 Alors comment expliquer ce phénomène en août ? “Parce que la circulation atmosphérique  a changé par rapport à juillet“. Et parce que “l’anticyclone des Açores est trop bas, trop retiré sur l’Atlantique. Alors que d’habitude, il s’étend vers nous“.  Et nous protège.

So how can this phenomenon be explained in August? “Because the atmospheric conditions has changed and is different from July”. And why “the Azores anti-cyclone is too low, too deep in the Atlantic. When normally, it tends towards us”. And it protects us.

Another literary project is that of commemoration of an aircraft crash on Djouce mountain in Wicklow in 1946. Bill wrote articles for the 50th, 60th and most recently the 70th anniversary, (12 Aug 2016) all were published in the Wicklow Times and ensured the survivors of the crash, all French Girl Guides, were not forgotten. Articles reproduced on this website. But mostly this site gives a more general European and specific French slant on popular and not so popular articles of French news, translated to English by the author. Each article is translated on a paragraph by paragraph basis so easy to read in either language and even possible to improve either language by comparison of the short English and French paragraphs. Amusez vous bien. The author is currently writing an easy to read technical aviation book centered around the Fokker 50. Another interest is that dealt with in another of Bill's websites www.realnamara.net, a Statue of the mother of God, Mary. It was erected in 1972 in Dublin, at the end of the Bull Wall near Clontarf, and my grandfather William Nelson, was the main instigator of that project.
